On Monday afternoon, the city of Copperas Cove announced that its chief of police and assistant city manager, Timothy “Tim” Molnes, passed away from a lengthy illness.
Molnes had worked for the city for more than 36 years, beginning his work at the Copperas Cove Police Department on Jan. 7, 1980 and becoming Chief of Police in July 1999.
“Chief Molnes was respected by many and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and co-workers. The Molnes family has requested respect for their privacy at this time,” the city said in a press release.
In January 2015, Molnes was recognized by the city for 35 years of service.
“It is both an honor and a pleasure to work with a true professional who thinks of the city above all else in his work environment, and his decision-making process,” wrote city manager Andrea Gardner in Molnes’ evaluation, which she read from during that recognition ceremony.
“We have worked together side by side ever since I was appointed city manager in September 2007. This is one of the finest individuals I have come in contact with in my life,” Gardner said of Molnes during that January meeting.
A public visitation was held last evening at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, with a memorial service taking place today at 10 a.m. at Copperas Cove High School’s Lea Ledger Auditorium. Molnes will be interred at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
On April 15, 2016, Deputy Chief of Police Eddie Wilson was appointed interim police chief, said Kevin Keller, public information officer for the City of Copperas Cove.
