Students receive first books from retired teachers.
By DAVID MORRIS
More than two dozen kindergarten students from Mae Stevens Elementary school walked out of their school’s library Wednesday with a book to keep, thanks to the Copperas Cove Retired Teachers.
The association is responsible for providing nearly 600 books to the elementary schools of the district with a focus on kindergarten students as they are just developing the skillset by the end of their second semester. “We donated 111 books to Martin Walker, 120 at Hollie Parsons last week and some to Hettie Halsted in memory of former principal Coley Howell,” Marianne McDonnell said. “We delivered 10 books to the library of Mae Stevens and they will service the prek students next year when the campus becomes a pre-k only campus.”
