Cove students present comedy, Wild Strawberries

Special to Leader-Press

It's sometime before breakfast in the early- to mid-15th century and Truffladina just wants to eat. But her mistress, who fears her brother is dead, wants to go to the city and take care of his will. Dressing as her supposedly dead brother, she sets off with her maid. Hilarity is guaranteed as one mistaken identity leads to another in a hilarious, one-act, comedy presented by the Copperas Cove High School Theater Department.

Wild Strawberries by Jerry Ayers will be presented this evening at Lea Ledger Auditorium, 4—S. 25th Street, 7 p.m. The production is directed by CCHS Theater Arts Teacher Emily Pastore.

"I first read Wild Strawberries two years ago, and I cracked up laughing the whole time,” Pastore said. “I was so excited to see that I had the right kids to perform this play. The show uses a great deal of physical comedy as well as comedic timing so it was important to find the right students to take it on. This group of young actors has so much talent and they make me laugh every day."

CCHS Junior Sylvia Dinger is taking the stage for the first time.

"I auditioned for this show because I wanted to be a part of something and I'm not athletic so sports was out of the question,” Dinger said. “I'm glad I did too because now I work with and am friends with some of the most amazing and funniest people you can ever meet."

Freshman Kaitlyn Huston is no stranger to the spotlight and plays the role of Leyla who falls madly in love with Nikolas de Nikoli, who is actually Nikolette in disguise.

"The theatre has always been a home for me, and this was an amazing opportunity to make great friends and create and amazing production together,” Huston said.

The production takes place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lea Ledger Auditorium. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the box office before the show.
