The Central Texas STARZZ, Team J. Lyons, and the Copperas Cove High School Excel Club is hosting the inaugural Walk For Lupus - Copperas Cove on Saturday.

The 1.5K walk/3K run was the idea of Jasmin Lyons, a Cove resident who was diagnosed with lupus during her sophomore year at Copperas Cove High School. The 2013 alumnus has continued her education after high school and has also spent time trying to bring awareness of the disease.

“Killeen isn’t having a lupus walk this year, so I wanted to have one here in the local area,” Lyons said. She still plans to participate in the lupus walk in Temple, but with the help of the Starzz basketball team and the Copperas Cove High School Excel Club, is holding the walk in Copperas Cove this year.

All funds raised will go to Lupus Foundation of America,Lone Star Chapter.

The 1.5K walk and a 3K run start at 9 a.m. South Park is located at 2602 Dennis St. There will be drinks and snacks available at the event.

Registration fee including a T-shirt is $15 and without a T-shirt registration is $5. Online registration is available at www.starzzbasketball.com.

“We are not closing registrations before Saturday,” Lyons said. “Even if someone hasn’t registered yet, they are welcome to come on Saturday and register at the walk.”
