Cove’s Callis battles the ‘Beast’ at Texas States

WACO - Copperas Cove resident Jamie Callis joined 273 other players from around the country to compete in the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Texas States Disc Golf Championships in Waco over the weekend.
Callis shot a three-round total of 190 strokes to finish tied for seventh out of 43 players in the Masters division. He finished six spots behind the No. 17 player in the U.S. and No. 21 player in the world, JohnE McCray of Dover, Fla., who won the Masters division with a combined score of 169. He shot a -29 under par to take the top spot and the $1,080 cash prize. Callis finished -8 under par and claimed $285 in prize monies.
“Going in, my goal was a Top 5 finish but I’d be satisfied if I finished in the Top 10 so I guess I’m satisfied,” said Callis. “I didn’t play as well as I thought I should have but I am satisfied with the performance.”
