Starting Monday, the Copperas Cove Public Library is kicking off its week-long celebration of National Library Week with a series of activities for all ages. The week will culminate in next Saturday’s Rally Day on April 16.
The library has dubbed April 11 as “Muffin Monday,” and starting at 10 a.m., each library patron checking out a book will receive a free muffin while supplies last. Also on Monday night, a free beekeeping class will take place at 7 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.
On Toddler Tuesday, little ones from ages one to three will get to learn about colors and shapes with songs, crafts and stories beginning at 10 a.m. At 7 p.m., Double C Square Dance will hold their weekly lesson.
Wii Wednesday follows on Wednesday, April 13. From 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., patrons can come in and play a selection of Wii games on the big screen in the library’s meeting room.
Teen Thursday features the Teen Group meeting from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m., during which there will be a 3-D modeling contest.
On Free Book Friday the library will give a free book to everyone who opens a new library account.
The entire week will be capped off by Rally Day on Saturday, which runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Friends of the Library will host a book sale and serve refreshments. There will be bounce houses, live music and entertainment, along with behind-the-scenes library tours for everyone and 3-D printing demonstrations. Book sale funds will go to help library programs as well as purchase books.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of the nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries—school, public, academic and special—participate.
