Student members of online academies were able to meet and interact socially while having fun and exchanging ideas at MAKS Fun Center.
The Texas Virtual Academy (TXVA), K12, and Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS) invited their students and families to spend Friday from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at MAKS Family Fun Center in honor of National School Choice Week. As such, the event focused on the idea of letting people learn more about the various educational options that are available. In addition to the fun and games of the Fun Center, students and their families could interact in person and even bounce educational ideas off of one another.
“Being that our school is in a virtual environment, I like to choose locations where the students can meet one another, hang out, and it’s not overwhelming or intimidating,” said Adriana Steinhaus, the military base coordinator for Fort Hood, about TXVA. “This outing is to thank students for choosing us…My focus is letting these families engage one another and take them out of the virtual environment, have them interact, and let them learn things hands on…It keeps the kids interacting, learning, and growing.”
