Temple Railroad Museum hosting free family day event

Special to Leader-Press

TEMPLE- Winter blues got you down? Spent too much time together over the holidays? Bring the kids and venture out to the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum tomorrow for the free Cabin Fever Family Fun Day held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the museum.

“We know that the holidays can be stressful for families, especially with cooler temperatures keeping everyone inside,” said Museum Director, Stephanie Long. “We hope to offer a little fun for folks before the kids head back to school.”

Families who attend the Cabin Fever Family Day will enjoy free admission to the museum, as well as several free indoor games and crafting projects. Kids will be able to work out some pent up energy with a game of Beach Ball Dodge Ball or inflatable Bop-It Boxing. They will also be able to show off their ability to see the future with some fun New Year’s predictions and escape to warmer times at the “Warm It Up!” photo area, set up in the grand lobby. If the kids just don’t feel like being outside this winter, let the Railroad & Heritage Museum help bring nature to them, as they craft and complete a homemade bird feeder project to take home and enjoy.

The museum’s temporary exhibit, Mail Call, currently on display in the changing exhibit gallery, will also be free for guests from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Mail Call tells the fascinating story of military mail and communication - from the American Revolution to recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mail Call is a National Postal Museum exhibition organized and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.

The Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum hosts a free Family Day event on the first Saturday of each month. The museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot located at 315 West Ave. B in downtown Temple. The museum is open 10am-4pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
