A simple story of an unselfish man has morphed into what we know as Santa Claus today. I love the story of the original Nicholas. He likely never imagined his generosity and acts of kindness would transform his image from a third century bishop of the Byzantine empire, through the more than thousand years that followed, into the Man in Red of the present day Santa-culture that overtakes the original Christmas celebration.
The person of Nicholas is said to have lived in Turkey and was born around 280 A.D. He ended up with a great inheritance and instead of spending it lavishly on himself, he gave it away to the poor and helped the sick.
