PAR Guns holds free Saturday survival course
By KATHLEEN STARLING
PAR Guns held a free survival class Saturday, 11 a.m. at Ogletree Gap Park. These classes, held the second Tuesday of every month, are free and open to the public. Organizer Mike Desmond and his group of all volunteer instructors opened with a prayer for Paris and all those in harm’s way, then explained triage and land navigation, followed by a hands-on chance to put the land navigation skills to use.
Dr. Jeremy Swain explained the fundamentals of triaging in an emergency situation. Swain pointed out the importance of location, and the advantages of having shelter and transportation access. Participants learned, depending on the emergency, Ogletree Gap Park would make an excellent Field Treatment Site because of the pavilion, road, and open field. However, those in a position to triage an emergency must be prepared to utilize what is available within a reasonable distance to give aid to those that need it.
