AquaDawgs buoyed by boys at Midway Spooktacular

WACO – The Copperas Cove AquaDawgs boys’ swim team finished 5th out of 11 teams at the Midway Spooktacular held at the Waco Family YMCA in Waco on Saturday.
The boys had a good outing scoring 215 points with two Top 5- and two more Top 6-finishes and some lettering times.
The boys’ team of Paul Muniz, Joshua Bishop, Christian Gaston and Joseph Hotz finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:56.04. Hosts Waco Midway won the race with a time of 3:30.89. The finish added 28 points to the team’s total.
The same foursome finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:42.93 with Waxahachie notching the top time of 1:36.03. The finish also contributed 28 points to the team.
Hotz, Bishop, Muniz and Gatson teamed up again for a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.06 with Midway topping top category with a time of 1:46.14 and adding 26 points to the tally.
Hotz and Muniz also put up some strong individual performances with a pair of sixth-place nods.
Hotz finish in sixth place out of 42 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle. His time of 24.61 earned 13 points for his team.
Muniz also finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.69 for another 13 points towards the team’s 215-point total.
Several other boys’ swimmers added points to the AquaDawgs.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Adam Smalley, Carson McVeigh, Joel Fain and Simeon Carr finished eighth in their race, just 16-plus seconds behind the other Cove squad. The finish added 22 points to the total.
The relay squad of Joshua Morrison, McVeigh, Carr and Fain finished ninth in the 200-yard medley relay. Their time of 2:07.66 earned 18 points for the team.
The team of Bishop, Smalley, Fain and Carr finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:50.45. That time earned 18 points for the squad.
Carr added another seven points with a mark of 1:08.44 and 10th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Smalley (12th), McVeigh (13th ) and Gaston (15th) also earned points for their team in the race.
De’Vaunte Jackson added six points with a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:45.17) and earned five more points with a 12th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:35.10).
Four more simmers earned points for the boys in individual races. Earning points for Cove in the 100-yard backstroke were Fain with nine points (9th-place, 1:17.04), Morrison with seven points (10th-place, 1:18.07) and Caleb Callahan with three points (14th-place, 1:28.73). Bishop added three points in the 100-yard breaststroke (14th-place, 1:17.52).
The foursome of Alyssa Roy, Dacie Judd, Jade Lawrence and Alyson Monslave notched the best finish for the Cove girls with a 9th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Their time of 5:20.40 earned 18 points for the squad.
The team of Rachel Phelps, Trinity Hickman, Tianah Wilson and Grace Wolford also contributed points in the race. Their 16th-place finish and time of 6:00.06 earned four points for the team.
Roy, Judd, Lawrence and Monslave again teamed up for a 15th-place finish and time of 2:20.02 in the 200-yard freestyle relay for six points on the tally and the group of Phelps, Hickman, Wilson and Wolford added two points with a 17th-place finish and mark of 2:36.14.
The team of Lawrence, Hickman, Monslave and Judd earned six points in the 200-yard Medley relay. Their time of 2:43.32 earned them a 14th-place finish.
Individually, Wilson notched the only points for Cove with a 10th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Her time of 8:43.89 was good enough for seven points.
The AquaDawgs get right back in the pool this Saturday for the Dr. Nickel Invitational at Temple High School. The meet is set to begin at 9:15 a.m.
