Sixth annual Eco Harvest open to public on Saturday
By LYNETTE SOWELL
Green, sustainable living is the focus of this weekend’s sixth annual Eco Harvest, sponsored by Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful. Today all fourth graders in CCISD are being treated to a day-long field trip for the event, held at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. The focus is on interactive, kid friendly exhibits that are hands-on to show how to live more environmentally friendly. Tomorrow, the event is open to the entire community, and kicks off at 9 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast cooked up by volunteers from the Copperas Cove Rotary Club. The festival runs until noon. This year, Zoomagination from San Antonio will return for educational presentations focusing on how animals interact with nature and with each other. Hedgehogs, sloths and wallabys are just a few of the animals Zoomagination brings to events. Along with face painting and the pancake breakfast, KCCB is giving away a $50 H-E-B gift card, and those who attend and complete a survey are eligible for the gift card drawing. Also at Eco Harvest are the Lampasas Agrilife’s watershed coordinator and the 4-H group from Coryell County Agrilife. A returning favorite is the garbage pizza presentation, as well as planting seeds and learning how to recycle paper. New for this year is a garbage race, to put correct recyclable items into a bin, with winners getting bragging rights. At past Eco Harvests, those who attended learned about recycling, composting, water conservation and other aspects of green living.
