Richard Kuykendall
Richard Kuykendall, 85, passed away at his home in Kempner on June 16, 2015 after a lengthy illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on September 5, 2015 at Pidcoke United Methodist Church in Pidcoke, Texas. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ at 11:00 AM on October 2, 2015. Richard “Dick” was born on March 23, 1930 in Madison, Wisconsin to the late Sidney and Ethel Lowry Kuykendall. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. He married Sara A. Todd on June 12, 1954 in Wisconsin. Richard was a graduate of UW-Platteville in 1960 and received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Winona State University in 1964. He was an educator for 20 years in Wisconsin and later a mail carrier with the US Postal Service for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Sidney, Archie and Clem. Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara; four children, Todd Kuykendall and wife, Carol of Dewey, AZ, Mary Streckel and husband, Hagen of Kempner, Russell Kuykendall and wife, Deborah of Baytown, TX, Dan Kuykendall and wife, Jennifer of Chandler, AZ; brothers, Sam Kuykendall, Russell Kuykendall; sisters, Helen Johnson and Jean Moore-Blumenthal; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kempner Fire Department at 315 Pecan Street, Kempner, TX 76539.
