Kerrville- Stephen Andrew Carruthers, 60, a longtime resident of Kerrville died Monday, March 30, 2015. Steve was born in Corpus Christi on March 21, 1955 to the late Stephen and E. Jean
Carruthers. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountingfrom Lamar University and a Master’s Degree in Accounting from University of Texas, Austin and was very proud of his accomplishment.
Steve was the Husband of Rachael McDonnell Carruthers, formerly of Copperas Cove. She moved to Kerrville six years ago to share his laughter and blend their animals: her dogs and his cats. He loved his mom’s cooking and got his love for music from his dad. Over the years, he grew into quite the cook himself making some fantastic meals. The love of music always stayed an
important part of his life. Steve was big hearted, warm and caring person always willing to help out in any situation. If anyone ever needed help, he was the one they could count on. He was a guardian angel for many homeless animals and made a home for many cats and 2 sweet dogs he loved very much. Steve supported the “Big Fix” Homeless Cat Project of the Hill Country helping
take care of and even adopted many of the cats from the organization. He participated and attended the Kerrville Folk Festival since the 70’s and was one of the founding members of Camp Stupid. Steve was involved in different aspects of the festival throughout the years. He volunteered with the Summer Youth Music Camp since the inception of the program. He loved
being out at the ranch and enjoyed the outdoors. He considered it his home away from home. He had so many happy memories and countless amazing stories of times at the ranch that he loved to share with everyone. He created special bonds with the people he met and made long lasting friendships. Steve will live on in the memories of everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by his wife, Rachael Carruthers and allhis family and friends. A celebration of life for Steve will be held during the Kerrville Folk Festival at Quiet Valley Ranch on Chapel Hill with more details to come as the event draws near.
