The small Coryell County community of Lincolnville, Texas, might not exist now, but the Coryell County Historical Commission hopes to commemorate its location for future generations. Lincolnville was once located on the Leon River four miles west of Gatesville. The community, named for Abraham Lincoln, was established by former slaves from Gatesville shortly after the end of the Civil War. In 1904, its residents had a school with 13 students and one teacher, and even had its own house of worship, Bethlehem Baptist Church, which was established in 1872.
