Annual sausage fest draws hundreds, selling out of 3,900 pounds
By DAVID MORRIS
Joining together as their ancestors did generations ago, members of Trinity Lutheran Church held their annual sausage fest Saturday, selling nearly four thousand pounds of the Mickan family’s secret sausage. Gathering at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, the group started serving up cooked plates at 11 a.m., and minutes later the 2,700 pounds of bulk sausage was sold out. “You can’t buy this sausage anywhere else except for this time of year and that is what makes the annual German Sausage fest so popular,” said Mike Kriegel. “A lot of the old German families remember this from their childhoods. Families have been coming together when it starts to get cold and sharing their hogs following a fall butchering, sharing ham, bacon and sausage preparing for the winter.”
