Nine Lady Dawgs named to 12-6A All-District Softball Team

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs fell short of a playoff berth in the competitive, nine-team District 12-6 race but their efforts didn’t go unnoticed by the coaches of the district.
Nine Lady Dawgs were named to the 2019 list.
Sophomore Alina Salazar was named to the First Team as a catcher while junior Madalyn Scribner was named a First Team infielder and senior Kristen Wasiak was named a First Team Outfielder.
Sophomore pitcher Brooke Schmidt was named to the Second Team along with seniors Maria Hanna (catcher) Jayda Carter (infielder), Nazhoni Wyss (outfielder) and freshman Emma Wasiak (outfielder).
Junior outfielder Angelica Montanez received an Honorable Mention.
Sisters Emma and Kristen were also named to the Academic All-District list along with Wyss. The senior Wasiak and Wyss were also selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association 2nd Team Academic All-State list.
The Most Valuable Player nod went to Belton sophomore Paige Nunez while the Newcomer of the Year went to Waco freshman Haley Rodriguez.
The Defensive Player of the Year was split between a trio of Lady Tigers – senior Madison Cotton, senior Taylor Tubbs and junior Hannah Kelley.
The Offensive Player of the Year nod went to Belton senior Caleigh Robinson and the coach of the Year went to Belton’s Matt Blackburn.
Joining the Lady Dawgs on the First Team were (pitchers) – Midway senior Jamzine Gendorf and Shoemaker sophomore Madalyne Martinez; (infielders) – Belton junior Miranda Davila, Belton senior, Belton junior Maddison Parker, Harker Heights junior Ja’Lynn Swiney, Temple junior Bryanna Salas, Temple senior Jaylin Kindles, Midway senior Sammi Martinez, Midway senior KK Trochim, and Midway senior Faith Fernandez; (outfielders) Belton senior Madison Sniggs, Belton senior Madison Ward, Temple senior Alexis Lewis, Shoemaker senior Deborah Hamilton, Midway senior Camryn Collier and Midway junior Tatum Seith; (designated player) – Belton senior Isabelle Gutierrez and (utility player) – Killeen senior Avalyn James.
Joining the Lady Dawgs on the Second Team were (pitchers) Harker Heights freshman Evan Fuller and Temple junior Hayli Hesse; (catchers) – Harker Heights senior Haley Brown; (infielders) – Shoemaker senior Tamera Johnson, Shoemaker freshman Madelyn Morua, Ellison sophomore Sammy Gutierrez, Ellison junior Anyssa Chelby, Harker Heights junior Kaycee McDowell, Waco junior Mariah Mason. Temple junior Madison Wacker and Temple freshman Alena Salazar; (outfielders) – Belton junior Payton Cook, Belton sophomore Harley Staton, Harker Heights senior Divinity Merrick, Waco senior Christianna Hernandez, Midway sophomore McKenley Clark and Temple senior Makenna Holland; (designated players) – Killeen junior Ashley Treese and (utility players) – Ellison sophomore Kadazjah Trimble and Temple senior Tayler Guerra.
