Fathers and their daughters enjoyed a special night of making memories together and bonding at the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance.
This year’s dance, hosted by the Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation and the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, took place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The dance serves as a fundraiser to help support future YAC events.
In addition to dancing, participants could play corn hole, dress up at the selfie station, have their photos professionally taken by Camera Artistry, and, of course, enjoy a wide variety of delicious food. Much of the food for the event was donated and included a variety of drinks, candy and sweets, sandwiches, wraps, and more. Participants received a raffle ticket upon entry and a variety of nice items were donated to the event by local businesses.
Kailee Diaz, YAC member and volunteer for the event, said that YAC puts on the event each year as a way to help the community come together. She said that the daddy/daughter dance had special meaning to her.
“I showed up to one of these when I was younger, and I think it brought me and my dad closer together,” said Diaz.
This is the group’s 5th year hosting the event.
“I just think that the dads want the opportunity to make memories with their daughters,” said Caycee Hauck, Recreational Superintendent for Copperas Cove Parks & Recreation, who helped with running the event.
Hauck said that it is a good opportunity for the daughters to dress up and to be able to have some one-on-one time with their dads.
“It’s a good atmosphere,” said Jonathan Dunlap who brought his daughters Alysia Dunlap (12) and Evey Dunlap (3). “It’s about spending time with each other…They grow up so fast.”
Dunlap will be deploying to Poland soon, so he wants to spend as much time as possible with them in the meantime. Both girls really enjoyed the dance.
Evey said that her favorite part was “dancing!” She said that she also really liked the cupcakes.
Aaron Clark brought his daughter Aubrey Clark (5) to the dance for the third year in a row.
Aubrey said she loved dancing with her dad because “he spins me around!”
Clark said that his daughter enjoys getting to pick out the outfits that they will each wear to the dance. It’s a great way for the two to bond.
“We look forward to it every year,” said Clark.
