Although it looked like by the end of the Aug. 16 filing period that the Copperas Cove mayoral race was unopposed, a write-in candidate submitted the required form to the city secretary’s race by the write-in deadline of Friday, Aug. 20.
Devin Meadows filed to be a write-in candidate for the position of mayor. Meadows didn’t respond by press time for further information on himself or his candidacy.
However, he can still campaign with the hopes that Copperas Cove voters will literally “write” his name for the position of mayor on the Nov. 2 ballot.
Dan Yancey, Place 3 councilmember and mayor pro tem, filed for a position on the ballot and thus will be listed on the ballot.
Filing remains open for Copperas Cove city council Place 3, to fill the remainder of the term. Election filing for that position is open through Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The race for Place 3 has three candidates, Shawn Alzona, Scott Remalia, and William Gregory Smith. Applications are still being accepted by the city secretary’s office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Copperas Cove city council election packet is available online at the city secretary’s page of the city website, www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary and then under “Election Information.”
