Unemployment rate down, 54,000 jobs filled

Texas employers expanded their payrolls by 64,100 jobs in April for a total of 348,000 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs added over the year. Texas’ unemployment rate fell to 5.2 percent in April, down from 5.5 percent in March and down from 6.4 percent a year ago. The Central Texas region that stretches from the Greater Killeen area into Temple has a civilian labor force of 172,100 with 162,700 employed and an unemployment rate of 5.5 percent, down from an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent in March and 6.8 percent from April of 2013.
