Six candidates file for Copperas Cove elections

Filing for the Copperas Cove city council election is now open through Monday, August 19, and City Secretary Lisa Wilson received four applications for places on the ballot on Monday.
Filing officially began on Saturday for Copperas Cove city council elections, with places 3, 4 and 5 up for election.
Place 3 incumbent and mayor pro tem Dan Yancey filed to run again, with Place 4 incumbent Jay Manning also filing to run again.
For Copperas Cove city council place 5, there is now a contested race, with Dianne Yoho Campbell filing on Monday morning, and former councilman Gary Kent filing as of Monday afternoon. Place 5 is presently held by Kirby Lack.
Applications for the ballot will be accepted through Aug. 19.
There is no fee to file to run for office, but there are forms which must be completed and submitted to the city secretary’s office. The election packet is available online at the city secretary’s page of the city website, www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary and then under “Election Filing Information.”
Applications can be dropped off at the city secretary’s office Monday through Friday during regular business hours, or may be mailed to: The City of Copperas Cove, Attn: Lisa Wilson, City Secretary, P.O. Drawer 1449, Copperas Cove, TX 76522.
For the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees, Places 3, 4, and 5 are up for election. Place 3 is currently held by Mike Wilburn, Place 4 is currently held by Joan Manning and Place 5 is currently held by Bob Weiss.
As of Monday afternoon, incumbents Wilburn and Manning have filed to run for reelection.
School board positions are three-year terms. All Copperas Cove ISD residents registered to vote may run for office.
The first day to file for a place on the ballot was Saturday. The deadline to file to run for office is Monday, August 19, at 5 p.m. at the district’s administration building, at 408 S. Main St.
Election packets are available to pick up at Copperas Cove ISD administration during regular hours, from now through Friday, August 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and on August 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
