Services set for Copperas Cove victim of Saturday’s I-14 crash

Joshua Jay Smith, 22, of Copperas Cove, will be remembered with a visitation on Friday, July 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
A funeral service will be held for him on Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m., at Lea Ledger Auditorium at Copperas Cove High School, 400 S. 25th St.
Smith was a 2018 graduate of Copperas Cove High School and attended Texas State University in San Marcos.
He, along with 20-year-old Aaliyah Marie Peinado, of Nipoma, California, were two of the three who died as a result of an early-morning crash on I-14 in Killeen when the vehicle in which they were riding was struck by a wrong-way driver, 22-year-old Sgt. Matthew Fernandez of Fort Hood.
Peinado is also listed as under the care of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home but no services had been listed for her as of Wednesday morning, July 20.
