School board swears in new member, holds monthly meeting

The Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees will gain a new member, with the swearing in of Jeff Gorres for Place 5, and hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., in the CCISD administration board room at 408 S. Main St.
The district will be naming two principals before the board, for Williams – Ledger Elementary and Copperas Cove Junior High School.
The board will also be taking a vote to rename its annual Board of Trustees Scholarship in Honor of Mr. Bob Weiss.
Several purchases exceeding $25,000 are up for formal approval by the board, to include the purchase of Storeroom Levers to Ensure Accessibility and Provide Additional Security, in the amount of $158,000; the purchase of Storage Area Network (SAN) Replacement and Implementation, for $157,535.30; and the purchase of 180 student laptops for $92,372.40.
Several facilities projects are on Tuesday’s agenda, to include accepting work done on the S.C. Lee Junior High courtyard renovation and the Copperas Cove Junior High fence project and Authorize the final payment to LMC for the work.
The replacement of metal panels on two metal buildings on the Copperas Cove Junior High School campus, the engineering and schematic design for electrical renovations and upgrades for the district’s former bus repair facility, which will be the district’s new carpentry shop, as well as restroom renovations at the current district training facility and adding restrooms to D-Wing at Crossroads High School, along with the renovation of the auditorium at Crossroads High School, are all on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, plus the engineering and schematic design for the HVAC replacement and re-roofing at Copperas Cove High School, are on the agenda.
There will be a time of recognition at the start of the meeting, to include honoring the retirement of the superintendent’s secretary, Teresa Dennison, with 26 years of service.
The Pride of Cove Marching Band and Color Guard will be recognized for an outstanding marching season, several CCISD athletes to be recognized for their selection to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State team and Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State team, and the winners of the 2019 CCISD Christmas card design contest will be recognized.
