This month, voters will get to decide two elections, the May 7 Constitutional Amendment election, and the runoff for the March 1 primary election.
With the May 24 primary election runoff date three weeks away, the Coryell County Republican Party is hosting a candidate forum on Wednesday, May 4, at the Copperas Cove Public Library meeting room, starting at 6:30 p.m.
There is one runoff race in Coryell County for the position of Coryell County Commissioner Precinct 4, with incumbent Ray Ashby and Keith Taylor on the ballot.
The two candidates will be answering questions at the forum. As there is no Democratic candidate on the ticket, the May 24 runoff will decide the Commissioner seat for Precinct 4.
Two candidates for state races will also be making appearances at Wednesday’s forum, to include Raul Reyes, who is in a runoff against Pete Flores in the Texas State senate race for District 24. The Republican winner of this runoff will face the winner of the Democratic runoff between Jan McDowell and Derrik Gray in the November general election.
Dr. Tim Westley will also be making a stop in Copperas Cove for Wednesday’s forum.
Dr. Westley is in the Republican party runoff for the Texas Land Commissioner, and he is facing Dr. Dawn Buckingham in that runoff. Buckingham previously served as the State Senator for District 24.
The winner of that runoff will face the winner of the Democratic Party runoff between Jay Kleberg and Sandragrace Martinez in November.
The first day of early voting for the Tuesday, May 24 runoff will be Monday, May 16.
