Robyn Karns is following her dream of planning events and celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Friday at her showroom, Robyn Karns Event Planning & Rentals, located at 2126 E. Bus. 190.
On Saturday, Karns followed up with a grand opening.
Karns and her husband have called the Copperas Cove area home for more than four years, and he retired from the military in September after 23 years of service.
As for Karns, she knew change was coming earlier this year.
“I just knew there was a shift coming in my life, I just didn’t know what it was. I was like ‘God, what’s going on?’ I talked to my husband and told him, I think I’m going to do this.”
Karns has worked for real estate agent Sarah Seidler, whose office is located upstairs from the showroom. Karns said she knew the space below was vacated and available after Bill French moved his jewelry store to the Five Hills Shopping Center.
Karns said she’s always enjoyed events and planning parties, and had dreamed of having her own planning and rentals business for a while, but then at the end of May began planning to open a showroom in earnest. She said she had ideas for the vacant spot below the real estate office, not realizing she would eventually lease the space. Originally, there was a tenant in the space and Karns took that to mean it wasn’t time for her business just yet.
“I have very strong faith, so I knew when God said it was time,” Karns said. “So I called Bill and said, ‘Hey, if she leaves, let me know.’ He didn’t call, but then hen a few days later he called and said the space was available.”
The rest is history, with Karns setting up shop to arrange displays of furniture available for rent, as well as accessories like candlesticks, throw pillows, glassware, linens and more. Among the furniture to rent are items like vintage chairs and a sideboard, as well as an antique hutch.
In addition to party and event planning like baby showers, birthdays anniversaries “anything to celebrate anything,” Karns does home staging.
“Whenever I do a consultation, when I find out what the need is, I will go out and purchase what I need at that time,” Karns said. “I’m very selective in what I buy. My style is not the typical event planner’s style. I give people what they want, but like to incorporate some of my style into that design.”
Karns also provides “day-of” coordinating services.
“A lot of people may plan a wedding and don’t think they need someone to coordinate the day of the event but I have had venues call me and say, ‘Please, can you help them?’”
Karns said the thing she enjoys most about planning an event is the relationships with her clients.
"I love getting to know people’s hearts. I love sitting down with them and listening to who they are as a whole, not just a Pinterest picture.”
As a military spouse for more than two decades, Karns also said she wants to do special promotions for military-affiliated clients.
Karns accepts consultation appointments via her website at www.robynkarns.com or by calling (254) 577-5311. Karns is also offering her showroom as a venue for coffee talks and other gatherings such as baby and bridal showers.
