Polls open Monday for May 7 Constitutional Amendment Election

Early voting for the May 7 General Election starts Monday, April 25, and runs through May 3.
Copperas Cove residents will see propositions for two amendments to the State Constitution on the ballot.
Proposition 1 would authorize the reduction “of the amount of a limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed for general elementary and secondary public school purposes on the residence homestead of a person who is elderly or disabled to reflect any statutory reduction from the preceding tax year in the maximum compressed rate of the maintenance and operations taxes imposed for those purposes on the homestead.”
Proposition 2 would increase the amount of the residence homestead exemption from ad valorem taxation for public school purposes from $25,000 to $40,000.
Early voting runs from April 25 to May 3, 2022. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25 to April 29 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 2-3. Early voting locations include:

Election Day is Saturday, May 7, 2022. Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting locations include:

Oglesby Community Center- 118 Main St
Gatesville Annex- 801 E. Leon St
Registered voters will need to bring one of seven types of photo identification: a Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS, a Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS, a Texas Handgun License issued by DPS, a United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph, a United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph, or a United States Passport (book or card).
Next Tuesday is the final day for the County Tax Assessor/Collector’s Office to receive any applications requesting an absentee or mail-in ballot. Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

Absentee ballots are limited to eligible, registered voters who are either 65 years or older; sick or disabled; will be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; are expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or will be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.
