November 6 election filing period ends Monday

The filing period for a place on the ballot in the November 6 election ends Monday, and as of this week, the number of candidates filing to run for Copperas Cove city council and mayor has risen to seven. 
On Monday, Joann Courtland filed to run for Copperas Cove city council Place 1 to challenge former place 1 council member Cheryl Meredith for the position. The spot is currently filled by David Morris, who is not seeking another term. 
The Copperas Cove mayoral race is now a three-way race, with Azeita Taylor filing to run on Wednesday. She faces incumbent Frank Seffrood and Joey Acfalle. 
In the race for Copperas Cove city council Place 2, Fred Chavez challenges incumbent James Pierce Jr. in his bid for a second term. 
Filing for the November 6 election for the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees also continues. Places 1 and 2 are up for election. 
In the race for Place 1, incumbent Inez Faison is being challenged by John Gallen. 
Joseph Leary is running for Place 2, against incumbent Harry Byrd. 
Filing for a place on the November 6 ballot continues through Monday, August 20, at 5 p.m.
The voter registration deadline for the November 6 election is October 9.
