Now that the Business 190 sidewalks and median project is pretty much complete, Copperas Cove City Manager Ryan Haverlah briefed the Copperas Cove city council regarding one of the 190 intersections and its new crosswalk.

Locals traveling westbound on 190 in the far right lane are likely accustomed to not stopping on the red light, but continuing onto Avenue D.

According to Haverlah, that has now changed with the completion of the project.

“There is an expectation for traffic to stop on the red light and that is because there is a crosswalk there,” Haverlah said.

Prior to the roadway construction, there wasn’t a crosswalk and locals would turn right onto Avenue D, without stopping.

“Now in working with TxDOT when that project was designed, TxDOT specifically requested that the crosswalk be at that portion of the intersection,” Haverlah said during Tuesday’s council meeting.

“So, I have specifically requested that there be some additional signage or something because as Copperas Cove residents, we get used to our own traffic patterns and the way we drive at that intersection for many, many years. It has been a yield on red light, to turn right onto Avenue D. So it’s something that we have to get used to as a change once the project was completed.”

Haverlah said there will be some additional signage that is going up as well as potentially some additional traffic arrows to be painted.
