Bella Sera hosts grand reopening

By LYNETTE SOWELL

It is an American dream turned into reality for Kosovo native Sammy Gashi and his family, as Bella Sera held its grand reopening on Tuesday.

The restaurant near the intersection of Robertson Avenue and Business 190 underwent four months of renovation. Gashi celebrated with representatives from the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, chamber ambassadors, along with other community members. Mayor Frank Seffrood attended, as did councilwoman Marty Smith.

Smith spoke a few words about how she met Gashi and his family when they had first purchased the building, formerly open as Grant’s restaurant, and were in the process of transforming it into an Italian restaurant.

“They were laboring, working hard. He comes from a very close family that has worked very hard for everything they have,” Smith said.

“Thank you for coming, thank you for all the support you have given,” Gashi said. The restaurant staff laid out a buffet for those who attended the reopening to sample some lasagna, fettucine Alfredo, along with pizza and salad.

Gashi’s mother, Nepa, was present for the ribbon cutting and grand reopening, as were Gashi’s wife, Merita, and two cousins. She is visiting from Germany, where she now lives with one of Gashi’s six brothers. Gashi credits his mother as the one responsible for his cooking skills, along with the recipes diners enjoy.

Bella Sera first opened in 2009, with Gashi’s cousins operating Bella Sera locations in Marble Falls and Bee Cave.
