Just after 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the City of Copperas Cove issued a boil water notice for all of its water utility customers, effective immediately, Aug. 16.
“Due to pressure loss from damage caused to a 16” main transmission line on August 16, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required our system, (City of Copperas Cove, PWS 0500001) to notify affected customers to boil their water prior to consumption until further notice,” the city announced in a press release.
The damage to the City’s main water line was due to Metronet boring through a line in the area of Shady Lane and Little Street.
“To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
“The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source."
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the City of Copperas Cove will issue another notice that the water is safe for consumption.
The City asks that any questions or concerns be directed to Corey Chambers, Water Distribution Superintendent, at cchambers@copperascovetx.gov or (254) 547-2416, or Public Works at (254) 547-0751.
