Meet the Candidates set for Monday

Copperas Cove voters will have the opportunity to hear from the candidates running for positions on the Copperas Cove city council as well as the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees on Monday.
AARP chapter 1359 is holding a “Meet the Candidates” gathering on Monday, October 9 at 12:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall at Grace United Methodist Church, 101 W. Avenue F.
In the race for city council place 6, John A. Hull, E. Marc Payne and Danny Palmer are running for the spot currently held by George Duncan.
Charlie Young is facing incumbent Matthew Russell for place 7 on the city council.
In the CCISD board of trustees race, Place 5 incumbent Bob Weiss faces off against challenger Jeffrey Gorres. For place 6, incumbent Jim Copeland faces challenger John Gallen. Dr. Karen Harrison is the place 7 incumbent and runs unopposed.
The event is free and open to the public.
Monday’s get-together is the second of three being held by groups in the city, with a candidates’ forum also coming up at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m., the Saturday before early voting begins for the Nov. 7 election.
Monday October 9, is also the last day to register to vote before Election Day, November 7.
Early voting will be held from Oct. 23 – Nov. 3.
