Warren Townsend was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers Central Texas on Thursday evening at the group’s annual banquet at Anderson Campus Center at Central Texas College.
Townsend has been a social worker for over 50 years, and has been helping individuals, families, and communities achieve a better quality of life. He was an activist during the civil rights movement and is still a mover for whatever group is an object of discrimination. Townsend has always seen politics as an arena for change and he was appointed by the Governor of Texas to the Social Work Licensing Board.
Professional Counseling Services was opened in Killeen in 1973 by Townsend. At the time, PCS was the only full-time private counseling in Bell or Coryell Counties.
