The annual Lemonade Day weekend is about eight weeks away, and children in the area have already begun signing up for the program that teaches them valuable entrepreneurship skills.
This past weekend, two events were held, one on Fort Cavazos, and the other at the H-E-B Plus on West Stan Schleuter Loop where kids and their families could register, pick up free T-shirts, as well as a free swag bag of things to help them in their lemonade stand venture.
There is no fee to register for Lemonade Day.
Registration can be done online at https://linktr.ee/lemonadedayfortcavazosarea. Parents can also sign up for notifications about upcoming events.
Kids with lemonade stands can inquire at local businesses about setting up stands at their locations, or they can operate their stand in front of their home. Many kids tweak recipes for different flavors of lemonade, and also offer treats and snacks for purchase along with the lemonade.
The goal is for kids to learn business principles that will enable them to “save some, spend some, give some” of their earnings. Kids will often set a goal of earning enough to buy something special, but they will also look for causes where they can donate some of their earnings, such as the local animal shelter. Lemonade Day principles can also teach them about getting “investors” in their business – such as parents and other relatives – who will be paid back for their investment.
Last year, nearly one dozen lemonade stands were set up by children in the Copperas Cove area, not including the business ventures on CCISD elementary campuses.
Next Saturday, Chick-fil-A in Copperas Cove will be the setting for two “Little Squeezers” workshops, one at 9 and one at 11 a.m., where kids will get the chance to practice their fresh lemonade making skills.
There are only 10 spots available for both workshops, with 9 a.m. registration link at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lemonade-day-little-squeezers-copperas-cove..., and the 11 a.m. link at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lemonade-day-little-squeezers-copperas-cove...
Coming up on March 15, there will be a Design-A-Stand workshop at the Harker Heights Community Center, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with 50 spots available. Signups can be done at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lemonade-day-design-a-stand-tickets.
Lemon U is a Saturday workshop held at Central Texas College, where kids can learn the ins and outs of marketing, branding, and get ideas for their lemonade stands.
Lemonade Day is set for May 3-4.
