Bernard Christian Uhler II, 48, of Lampasas, was killed on Saturday afternoon as a result of a head-on collision that occurred on F.M. 116 north.
According to a statement released on Monday morning by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Uhler was traveling southbound in a 2007 BMW on F.M. 116, when he crossed over the center turn lane and collided with a 2023 Toyota pickup traveling north.
The Toyota was fully engulfed in flames after the collision.
The pickup’s two occupants, a 46-year-old male from Copperas Cove and his 42-year-old passenger, were able to escape their vehicle with minor injuries.
Uhler was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash, which occurred around 12:26 p.m., also sparked a grass fire, to which several local firefighting agencies responded.
As a result, both north- and southbound lanes of F.M. 116 were closed for several hours as first responders worked the scene and also extinguished the fire.
Next of kin have been notified and the crash is still under investigation, according to DPS.
“Texas DPS reminds drivers to limit distractions when driving. Limiting distractions behind the wheel greatly reduces the probability of being involved in a traffic crash,” said Sgt. Bryan Washko with Texas DPS.
