Holiday decorating contest winners announced

By LYNETTE SOWELL

Last Friday evening, members of the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful commission along with KCCB executive director Silvia Rhoads made the rounds throughout the city under cover of darkness, like Santa’s elves.

Their mission was to look at the Motion to Music entries for the KCCB Holiday Decorating Contest.

Lights in Motion is a new category, and members already had the opportunity to judge the light displays in the Traditional Decorating category, of which there were four entries.

Entrants had to submit daytime and nighttime photos of their yards by Thursday, Dec. 17.

The results of the Motion to Music category are as follows:

1st Place – The Mulvey Family, 1605 Little St.

2nd Place – The Barackman Family, 3406 Doss St.

3rd Place – The Pelton Family, 602 Courtney Ln.

Christian Mulvey, who designed the light show using a computer program called Light-O-Rama, spent about 500 hours working on the sequence of lights and synchronizing the lights with the music along with constructing some of his displays. This is his second year having a computerized display, and this year his channels are a whopping 120, up from the 48 he utilized last year in the program.

The Mulveys have their light display on from 7 until 10 p.m. nightly through New Year’s Eve.

Visitors can tune in on their vehicle radios to 89.3 FM and hear the music that goes along with the show, to include tunes like Wizards in Winter, O Come All Ye Faithful, Christmas Sarajevo and Christmas Canon, all by Trans Siberian Orchestra.

The winners of the Traditional Decorating category are:

1st Place – The Laurent Family, 3222 Logsdon St.

2nd Place – The Pineda Family, 2302 Terrace Dr.

3rd Place – The Dery Family, 503 Grace Louis Cir.

The Laurents welcome visitors to walk through their display of arches, a Ferris wheel, carriage and many more decorations. Santa will also visit their display on Christmas Eve to visit with children and hand out candy canes.

Residents are encouraged to visit each of these displays through New Year’s Day.
