Head Start students celebrate Easter

Kids searched high and low to find their very own baskets full of Easter eggs.
Despite the chilly, wet weather on Thursday morning, each of Copperas Cove Sunshine Head Start’s students participated in an egg hunt and even got to meet the Easter Bunny. The Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove and Walmart helped to make the event possible.
Instead of an outdoor Easter egg hunt, the Head Start students (ages 3-5) searched their classroom for an Easter basket filled with eggs with their name on it. This ensured that the children were able to experience the fun of the hunt as well as practice identifying their names.
“We wanted to make sure they had the Easter experience,” said Gloria Huffins, the Head Start Director. “We wanted to have some fun for the kids…They’re very excited. I know they’re happy.”
Huffins added that she is very grateful to the Exchange Club for providing the Easter eggs. After the egg hunt, each student was invited to greet the Easter Bunny and have their picture taken with him.
“We thought it would be a great thing for the kids,” said Sondra Hill, Personnel Coordinator for Walmart. Hill helped escort the Easter Bunny to the event.
The students were very excited to see the Easter Bunny, many of them gave him high fives and hugs.
“It’s nice that they do stuff like this,” said Ashley Lloyd as she watched her daughter Mercy Major (nearly 4) give a big hug to the Easter Bunny.
Lloyd said that she really likes the Head Start school and that her daughter enjoys the school. She liked that her daughter was so excited to see the Easter Bunny.
“She usually hates anything in a suit,” said Lloyd who suspected that the excitement of the other students helped her daughter to be excited as well.
