Avid readers were in for a great bargain this weekend at the Copperas Cove Public Library where the Friends of the Library hosted a massive book sale.

Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. anyone could buy a plastic bag filled with books for only $2. This included hardcover books and paperback books. This included books of all genres with plenty of romance, sci-fi, history, biographies, cookbooks, children’s books, and more.

“It’s been pretty steady since opening,” said Paul Fleet, Book Sale Committee Chairperson for Friends of the Library.

Fleet said that they had approximately 3,000 books available for the sale at the start of the day.

Money raised from the book sale goes towards supporting library programs and/or buying equipment for the library. Many of the books from the sale were donated to the library throughout the year. As they replenish their stocks, books will be on sale at their usual prices in the Palumbo Reading Room. They also have a book rack dedicated to trading your paperback book for one on the shelf. All money from sales and donations will be used to support Copperas Cove Library programs.

Fleet said that its important for them to support children’s programs.

“Too many times, young people spend all of their time on this,” said Fleet, holding up his cell phone. “If we can get some of them interested in reading books, or more interested in reading books, I think that’s a really good thing…Literacy is so important for young people.”

Rose Kleefman attended the event along with her children, Levi (7) and Leah (4) Kleefman. They left the library with a bag full of books for each of them.

“I liked picking out comics,” said Levi Kleefman. His favorite book that he chose Saturday was a book about Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. “I like reading with my mom.”

Kleefman said that her son, Levi, was working on a project which will include a presentation on the first moon landing. She thought the fair would help him with the project and add to his upcoming presentation.

“We’re constantly going through books, so this just helps us so much,” said Kleefman who was especially excited about the fact that it was a full bag of books for only $2. “It’s huge. The amount that we got was probably the amount that we would check out in one trip to the library, but now we get to keep them.”
