A crash involving a dump truck on F.M. 580 in Lampasas County on Friday morning resulted in an eight-year-old boy being injured.
According to a press release issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 1989 International dump truck loaded with dirt, operated by a female from Copperas Cove, was traveling eastbound on F.M. 580.
“According to the lead Trooper, the driver stated she observed a school bus stopped on the westbound side with lights activated and loading children. The driver of the dump truck was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet roadway and lost control as she applied the brakes,” said Sgt. David Washko with DPS.
“The truck left the roadway and rolled over. The school bus was not involved. An 8-year-old male passenger in the dump truck was transported to McLane Children’s Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries.”
Sgt. Washko said the crash investigation is still active and open.
“Texas DPS would like to remind drivers to reduce speeds when the driving conditions are not favorable. Reducing speed greatly reduces the probability of being involved in a crash when the roadways are wet.”
