Shawn Westley Noordam, 30, pled guilty on May 16 to charges of inappropriate relationship between an educator and a student and to aggravated sexual assault of a child.
In June 2015, Noordam was arrested and subsequently arraigned after an investigation which began when an officer with the Copperas Cove Police Department was notified on May 31, 2015 by the Copperas Cove Independent School District’s human resource officer about a possible improper relationship between an educator and student incident.
At the time, Noordam was a coach and physical education teacher at S.C. Lee Junior High School and had been communicating with a 15-year-old student via Twitter. The relationship was denied by the student when interviewed, who at first claimed they were only friends, according to the police officer’s complaint. However, the student eventually admitted the relationship had escalated in April 2014, becoming sexual and continued through May 2015.
