Food For Families drive collects more than 50,000 pounds of food from Cove.

For 25 years, KWTX in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America has been collecting non-perishable food products for the Food For Families drive, collecting canned meats, vegetables, cereals, baby food along with peanut butter, beans, rice, flour, sugar and pasta with sauce to fill the shelves of local food pantries. H-E-B Plus! in Copperas Cove was one of two locations in Coryell County that joined eight other counties in the 2014 campaign that lasted 14 hours Friday. “As a society we have to be willing to support things like Food For Families,” KWTX weatherman Rusty Garret said. “Stories have been shared with me of people who have received food before now having jobs and giving back to the program. That makes my heart warm. No matter where you live there is a need that can be filled easily.”
