Five Hills Scholarship Program contestants, mark your calendar, call and set your appointment as the pageant is two-weeks away and chairs at the salon will fill up fast in preparation for the May 13 event.
The salon, owned and operated by Amanda Sullivan has transitioned the salon into an all-inclusive beauty destination with a variety of services to help your hair, nail and skin needs.
“When the opportunity to buy the salon came about I jumped at the opportunity because I love the existing staff and wanted to build on the continued success of the business and take it to new heights, while providing excellent customer services for this great community.”
A Blissful Escape located on FM 116 has signed on to be the official salon of the pageant offering mani-pedis, spray tanning, hair styling, tattoo cover-ups and makeup application for the inaugural Five Hills Scholarship Pageant. Many of the staff are returning to help the contestants look their best as they compete for the titles of Pre-teen Miss Five Hills (9-12 years old), Young Miss Five Hills (9-12 years old), Teen Miss Five Hills (13-19 years old), Miss Five Hills (20-29 years old), Ms. Five Hills (30-49 years old) and Senior Ms. Five Hills (50+ years old).
“I am very passionate about this type of business and the team that I work with keeps me motivated and we can do great things as a team,” said Sullivan. “I raise my family in Cove and want to give back to the community that has supported the salon.”
Services available at A Blissful Escape Salon Spa, & Tanning include monthly laydown and standup tanning services starting at $40. A spa Mani is only $25 and a pedi to match is $10 more. Up-do’s and formal hair services begin at $55 and the salon has a library of styles to pick your favorite from. An hour long Swedish massage runs $65 and a 30-minute session is only $35.
“I’ve been doing hair for 20 years and participating last year was one of the most rewarding things I have been able to do,” Tonia Lee of A Blissful Escape said. “We started at 8 a.m. and didn’t get done until minutes before the last group went on stage. It was long, stressful, intense but most of all it was fun.”
The service is bitter sweet for the staff at the salon as they spend much of the day prepping the contestants and are unable to watch the final performance on the stage of Lea Ledger Auditorium.
“Seeing the final art of the contestant is the most rewarding part of the day,” said Lee. “We do the hair and makeup then after they put on the dress and head to the stage. To see it all come together is very rewarding and makes the long stress filled day worth it. Last year we had a contestant record her performance and share it with us. It really is a lot of fun and I am excited for our new girls to be able to participate this year with us.”
