Filing for city council, school board election opens

Filing for the November 6 election is opening for positions on the Copperas Cove city council as well as the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees.
Filing to run for city council begins Monday, July 23 at 8 a.m., with application packets available at the city secretary’s office or online at www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary and then under “Election Filing Information.”
Place 1 on the city council, currently held by David Morris; place 2, currently held by James Pierce Jr.; and the position of mayor, currently held by Frank Seffrood are up for election. Terms are for three years. The filing period runs from 8 a.m. on Monday, July 23 through 5 p.m. on Monday, August 20. The city secretary’s office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees, Place 1 and Place 2 are up for election. Place 1 is held by Inez Faison and Place 2 is currently held by Harry L. Byrd. School board positions are three-year terms.
The first day to file for a place on the CCISD ballot is Saturday, July 21. The deadline to file is Monday, August 20, 5:00 p.m. CCISD has candidate applications and packets. Packets may be picked up at the CCISD Service and Training Center, 408 S. Main St. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
