Filing for city council election opens tomorrow

Two terms are up this fall for two positions on the Copperas Cove city council, and the city will soon be preparing for election season to open.
Filing officially begins tomorrow, July 22 at 8 a.m.
There is no cost to file to run for office, but there are forms which must be completed and submitted to the city secretary’s office.
Forms are available online at the city secretary’s page of the city website, www.copperascovetx.gov/city_secretary and then under “Election Filing Information.”
The filing period runs from 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 22 through 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21. A drawing for places on the ballot by opposing candidates will be held at City Hall on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m. if needed.
As the city secretary’s office is closed on Saturday and Sunday, those who wish to file during the weekend can do so by faxing application to (254) 542-8927 or e-mailing to laldrich@copperascovetx.gov,
The city secretary’s regular office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Place 6, currently occupied by George Duncan and place 7, currently occupied by Matthew Russell, are all up for election.
Election Day is set for Tuesday, November 7.
Notable dates leading up to Election Day include:
First day of early voting: Monday, October 23
Last day to apply for ballot by mail (received, not postmarked): Friday, October 27
Last day of early voting: Friday, November 3
Last day to Receive Ballot by Mail Tuesday, November 7, at 7 p.m. (unless overseas deadline applies)
