Epically Geeky Expo set for Saturday at CTC

Central Texas College will be the setting on Saturday, June 1 for the 2024 Epically Geeky Expo, or EGX.

From 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., there will be plenty of activities that focus on

Wristbands have been on sale for the one-day event. Wristbands are $15 for ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 4-12, and ages 3 and under are free.

Tickets for planetarium shows are $5, with tickets for the Dungeons and Dragons movie being $7, and tickets for the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Tournament $10.

Tickets and wristbands can be picked up at the ticket counter for the Mayborn Planetarium in Building 267.

What was once known as Geek Fest has been rebranded, but this year’s expo will offer many of the elements of the past event, such as cosplay contests, guest artists, Harry Potter themed events, demonstrations by the Society for Creative Anachronism, and more.

The Sherwood Forest Faire will be performing outdoor demos and also present an introduction to stage combat inside.

This year there will be adult and kids’ cosplay contests, tabletop and video games, Star Wars Trivia and Bingo, Kingdom Heart Trivia, Star Trek Trivia, as well as dozens of programs and panels.

Voice actor and indie visual novel developer Ashe Thurman will present on Intro to Visual Novel/Narrative Game Development, as well as self publishing.

Fans of “Fantastic Beasts” will have the opportunity to make their own Bowtruckle, just like Newt Salamandar’s Pickett.

Vincent Garza will be presenting on Post Process for 3D Printing, specifically sanding and painting tips.

There will also be an “Eras” room for Taylor Swift fans from 3:30-5:30 for an afternoon of glitter face paint, Taylor Swift tattoos, friendship bracelet making, coloring pages, and take “just another picture to burn” at the Photo Booth.

Attendees can also learn cosplay safety and tips from cosplayer Stephanie Corlew. A Cosplay 101 panel will be held to also educate and discuss elements of cosplay.

Another panel will feature Women In Entertainment, a discussion bringing three women from different segments the entertainment industry to discuss their personal experiences entering into and working in the fields of film, voice acting, and theatre.

Join Ashley Robinson, Ashe Thurman, and Kaitlyn Huston as they talk about how they chose their paths, what worked and what didn’t, and advice they would give to young women interested in their professions.
Those who like to make their own costumes can learn from Gabriel Gonzalez, on how to make leather-look material from EVA foam.

Mad Raven Productions will be onsite to teach on all things Steampunk, as well as LARP – also known as live-action role playing.

Harry Potter fans can also meet up with Professor McGonagal to discuss the upcoming MAX series set to air in 2026 – a new Harry Potter series.
