Cove school board members to be honored at monthly meeting
Special to Leader-Press
Copperas Cove Board of Trustees will get the royal treatment at the monthly school board meeting on Tuesday night in honor of Texas School Board Member Recognition Month.
Presentations will be made to board members by Coryell County Judge John Firth who will present a proclamation from the commissioners’ court and by Copperas Cove Mayor Frank Seffrood. School principals and students will also make presentations to the elected trustees.
The 2016 theme is Super Heroes for Schools and many of the presentations will revolve around a super hero theme which was also the theme of Copperas Cove ISD’s annual convocation at the start of school in August. The Copperas Cove High School Texas Association of Future Educators will make a presentation of gifts to the board as will other groups.
For CCISD Board of Trustees Vice President Inez Faison, her service is not about the gifts or the recognition. She chooses to serve for two very simple reasons.
“Lead by example is one reason I serve--never ask anyone to do what you are not willing to do yourself. The second reason is ‘For those whom much is given, much is required.’” she said. “I am truly blessed and want my children to be leaders by example.”
For board member Doug Cook, his service relates to aligning his abilities with a credible, respected organization.
“CCISD has a highly trained and excellent educational program. We have a high quality staff of educators and administrators,” he said. “It is my goal to provide leadership and guidance to fulfill CCISD’s mission to provide exceptional opportunities for each student through exemplary instruction which inspires academic success, personal excellence, and responsible citizenship.”
CCISD campuses will continue to honor board members throughout the month with special entertainment, breakfasts and lunches presented by students.
More than 7,300 individuals volunteer on school boards across the state. No pay is given to current Copperas Cove school board members who have collectively served nearly 75 years on the district’s local board with CCISD Board of Trustees President Joan Manning in her twentieth year of service.
