Copperas Cove City Council members Mark Peterson, Gary Kent and Marty Smith joined City Manager Andrea Gardner in Washington last Sunday through Wednesday for the annual National AUSA convention, bending the ear of Army Vice Chief of Staff General Dan Allyn and the staff of Congressman John Carter, Roger Williams along with those from Senator Ted Cruz and Senator John Cornyn’s office. During the meetings, they discussed assistance from the Federal government to authorize a proposed land swap of 300 acres from U.S. Highway 190 to FM 116 upon completion of State Highway 9. Fort Hood Garrison Commander Col Matthew Elledge supports the exchange and has requested approval and on June 4 General Milley sent a memo notifying to Army headquarters preliminary approval of the land exchange.
