A total of 5,546 of the 41,250 Coryell County registered voters made their way to the polls during the March 1 primary.
Around 8:39 Tuesday evening, results came in from the office of Coryell County voter registrar Justin Carothers.
There were three key local opposed races for the Republican Primary ballot in Coryell County to include County Commissioner Precinct 2, with Billy Vaden and Scott Weddle running for that office. Weddle received 61.7% of the votes (633), to Vaden’s 38.3% (393). Weddle will replace Daren Moore, who did not seek reelection.
In the race for County Commissioner Precinct 4, incumbent Ray Ashby received 40.63% of the votes (546), with Taylor receiving 33.18%, or 393. Bradi Diaz received 26.19% of the votes, or 352.
With none of the three candidates for Precinct 4 having received more than 50 percent of the votes in that race, Ashby and Taylor will be in a May 24 runoff election.
In the four-way race for Coryell County Judge, incumbent Roger Miller received 55.6% of the votes, or 2,843. Those votes were enough to put him ahead of the other three candidates, Joey Acfalle 382(7.47%), Jack Barcroft 1,152 (22.53%), and Celia A Sellers 736 (14.39%).
Other Coryell County races were unopposed and include County Court at Law, John Lee; District Clerk, Becky Moore; County Clerk, Jennifer Newton; County Treasurer, Randi McFarlin; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, John Guinn; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, F.W. “Bill” Price; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Jim Caldwell; Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Coy Latham.
With all county races being unopposed by any Democratic party candidates, the March 1 winners and the winner of the May 24 runoff will secure their seats in office and will take office on Jan. 1, 2023.
