The Coryell County Republican Party took care of business on Monday evening, as the executive committee officers voted to select Bernadette Wolfe as the county GOP’s newest chair.

Wolfe retired from foreign service with the State Department, where she was a diplomatic courier, threat analyst, and hostage affairs officer. Locally, she is a recent graduate of the Texas Emergency Management Academy.

Wolfe hope to bring a new energy to the local party. She has been a republican supporter since she was a teenager in California, in the Ronald Reagan era.

“We held up signs and waved to voters, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a part of this,” she said on Monday evening. However, working for decades as a federal employee, she was limited in what she could do because of the HATCH Act. Despite that, she would support how she could behind the scenes.

She plans to bring the same grassroots approach locally, by organizing groups to knock on doors and put up signs and encourage voters to head to the polls.

“I want us to bring us back together where we should be, and let’s have fun,” she said.

Wolfe fills the vacancy left by former GOP chair, Colton Buckley, who announced his resignation as chair of the Coryell County Republican Party effective July 12. Buckley was elected by the county’s executive committee in September 2023 and ran unopposed in the March 2024 primary.

According to his resignation letter, Buckley said he was relocating from the county due to his new business and increased travel as he leads a national non-profit based in another state.

Along with Wolfe, the county GOP leaders voted to accept the appointment of Kristin Weddle as Chair of Voting Precinct 205 and Bob Evans as Chair of Voting Precinct 413.

Present for the meeting was Andrew Eller, on the State Republican Executive Committee for District 25.

The Coryell County GOP will soon be making plans for its annual fish fry, with date and time to be announced.
