Coryell County GOP chair resigns

After less than one year in the position, Colton Buckley has announced his resignation as chair of the Coryell County Republican Party.

Buckley was elected by the county’s executive committee in September 2023. He ran unopposed in the March 2024 primary. 

Buckley tendered his resignation notice to the Coryell County Republican Party Executive Committee in a letter dated July 5, which he also shared with the GOP precinct chairs within the county. 

According to the letter, his resignation is effective July 12. 

“Recently, I have acquired a new business that demands a significant portion of my time and attention, in addition to increased travel leading a national non-profit based in another state. As a result, I am relocating from Coryell County.

 “I will complete any statutory duties I may have, such as submitting the final election finance report to the Secretary of State’s office before my departure,” Buckley wrote. 

“This transition will allow the CEC to select a new Chairman and hold an organizational meeting by the end of the month for continuity purposes.”

He called it an honor and a privilege to have served as chair for the 2024 primary election. 

He said that although he is no longer serving in an official capacity, he remains committed to supporting the party and its initiatives in any way he can.

Buckley was appointed in November 2023 to the National Environmental Youth Advisory Council, a federal advisory committee of the Environmental Protection Agency. 

He also serves as CEO of the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils, a national nonprofit network dedicated to advancing agricultural conservation efforts and fostering rural economic development.
