Special to Leader-Press
Copperas Cove ISD announced Tuesday afternoon that former Copperas Cove High School Assistant Principal and basketball coach, Billy D. White, Jr., is the new principal of Copperas Cove Junior High School.
White’s first day in the new position began Wednesday, Sept. 30.
“The Copperas Cove Junior High selection committee was very impressed with Mr. White’s comments regarding his vision for building a strong campus culture focused on student success, personal integrity, visibility, exceptional communication and transparency,” CCISD Superintendent of Schools Joe Burns said. “The district looks forward to Mr. White and the CCJHS staff beginning this journey for the benefit of students and their families.”
White worked most recently as the assistant principal of Crossroads High School. But, White is no stranger to the CCJHS campus.
“I began my career in education at Copperas Cove Junior High in 2005 and I am looking forward to returning to work with the students and staff there. It’s a great campus with wonderful people and I plan to continue the incredible work that has taken place there,” White said.
“My goal is to build a family and team-oriented atmosphere, where everyone works together and fulfills his/her role in ensuring every student receives a high quality education at CCJHS.”
Prior to his role at Crossroads High School, White spent the 2019-2020 school year at Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial High School, where he was the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach and a dual-credit teacher, after departing Copperas Cove ISD from his position as Assistant Principal (Senior Class).
From 2009-2018, White was Head Boys’ Basketball/Cross Country coach as well as a teacher at CCHS.
White replaces Robert Turner, former CCJHS assistant principal who was bumped up to CCJHS principal when former principal Amanda Crawley took the position of the district’s Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Services.
